As time goes by, it is difficult to recall which came first, the idea of creating a hotel offering a wide range of services, such as the Albornoz Palace Hotel, or, at a less conscious level, the creation of a place in which visitors to the city would find a living testimony to the importance of Spoleto, a city which has made a name for itself, both at national and international level, in the field of contemporary arts, ever since the fifties.

Philosophy
As time goes by, it is difficult to recall which came first, the idea of creating
a hotel offering a wide range of services, such as the Albornoz Palace Hotel,
or, at a less conscious level, the creation of a place in which visitors to the
city would find a living testimony to the importance of Spoleto, a city which
has made a name for itself, both at national and international level, in the field
of contemporary arts, ever since the fifties. However, the essential idea was
to create a space in which it was pleasant to stay, to offer something different,
something more than just a large hotel with all the usual conference facilities.
We felt that this was an opportunity to exhibit the family art collection, as
well as a chance to invite selected artists to leave their imprint on the building.
We wanted to highlight the architectural space in which these works were shown,
the concept being to define and enrich the atmosphere with artistic treasures.
The adventure began in the hall with a large-scale project by Sol LeWitt, an artist
whose decision to spend some months of every year in Italy, and, in particular,
in Spoleto, demonstrates his love for this city. Feelings of reciprocal esteem
marked this in the company first venture and encouraged us to expand the project
and follow the same path of other artists of various artistic tendencies who declared
themselves excited at the prospect of such a challenge. They all responded to
the notion of creating something in Umbria which would become a point of reference
for all those people who appreciate the language of contemporary arts.
The experience was fruitful and brought us into contact not only with the artists
themselves, but also with critics and connoisseurs who honour us with their kind
regards and their company. As the founders and managers of the Albornoz Palace
Hotel, we take pride in the silent but animated presence of the works of art which
distinguish the hotel, we are gratified by the stimulating presence of the artists
and the people who enjoy their works and we are happy to offer our guests, especially
the younger ones, a place in which they can widen their knowledge of those vital
cultural themes which have always been an integral part of the fascination of
te city of Spoleto.
